เมื่อวันที่ 21 เมษายน 2559 กองพิสูจน์หลักฐานได้ตรวจสอบหาสาเหตุของการเกิดเพลิงไหม้เรือของบริษัท นิกรมารีน ที่เสียหายจนใช้การไม่ได้ จำนวน 5 ลำ มูลค่าความเสียหายประมาณ 20 ล้านบาท

กองพิสูจน์หลักฐานได้มาตรวจสอบหาสาเหตุของการเกิดเพลิงไหม้เรือเพิ่มเติม หาสาเหตุที่แท้จริงเกิดจากสาเหตุอะไร อาจจะเกิดจากความประมาทของเด็กเรือ ถูกวางเพลิง หรือเผาเรือตัวเองเพื่อเรียกเงินประกัน ซึ่งในการตรวจสอบของกองพิสูจน์หลักฐานในวันนี้ยังไม่ได้ข้อสรุปที่แน่ชัดว่าเกิดจากสาเหตุอะไร

นายพิสิษฐ์ ปภากิจยศพัฒน์ ผู้บริหาร บริษัท นิกรมารีน จำกัด กล่าวว่า การเกิดเพลิงไหม้เรือได้ดูจากกล้องวงจรปิดแล้วไม่น่าจะเป็นอุบัติเหตุ น่าจะเป็นคล้ายๆ เป็นการวางเพลิงมากกว่า เพราะดูได้จากเปลวไฟที่ลุกขึ้นไม่น่าจะเกิดจากไฟฟ้าลัดวงจร และกองพิสูจน์หลักฐานได้เข้ามาตรวจสอบยังต้องไปสรุปอีกครั้งถึงสาเหตุของการเกิดเพลิงไหม้ และทางบริษัท นิกรมารีน ขอแจ้งให้ทราบว่าในส่วนของเรือทุกลำทางบริษัทประกันภัยไม่รับประกัน จะมีประกันเฉพาะผู้โดยสารเท่านั้น
