การเปิดให้บริการรถตู้โดยสารประจำทาง สายภูเก็ต – ป่าตองเส้นทางสายใหม่ มีระยะทางตลอดสาย 18 กม.เป็นรถในเส้นทางหมวด 4 สายที่ 8537 

เมื่อวันที่ 1 กันยายน  2558  เวลา 10.00 น. ที่ห้องประชุมศาลากลางจังหวัดภูเก็ต นายธีรยุทธ์ ประเสริฐผล ขนส่งจังหวัดภูเก็ต ได้แถลงข่าวการเปิดให้บริการรถตู้โดยสารประจำทาง สายภูเก็ต – ป่าตอง ในโครงการผู้ว่าพบสื่อมวลชน ครั้งที่ 12/2558 โดยมี นายนิสิต จันทร์สมวงศ์ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นประธานการแถลงข่าวและมีสื่อมวลชน เข้าร่วมรับฟัง

นายธีรยุทธ์ กล่าวว่า เส้นทางรถโดยสารประจำทางดังกล่าว เป็นรถในเส้นทางหมวด 4 สายที่ 8537 ภูเก็ต – ป่าตอง (ข) เป็นเส้นทางสายใหม่ มีระยะทางตลอดสาย 18 กม. เริ่มต้นจาก สถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสารจังหวัดภูเก็ต แห่งที่ 1 แยกซ้ายไปตามถนนพังงา แยกซ้ายถนนสุรินทร์ ผ่านศาลากลางจังหวัดภูเก็ต แยกซ้ายไปถนนดำรง ตรงไปตามถนนทุ่งคา แยกขวาไปถนนเทพกระษัตรี แยกซ้ายถนนโกมารภัจน์ แยกขวาไปถนนเยาวราช โรงพยาบาลวชิระ ถึงสี่แยกสามกอง (แยกโลตัส) ตรงไปตามทางลวงแผ่นดินหมายเลข 4029 ถึงแยกสุวรรณคีรีวงศ์ แยกซ้ายไปตามถนนพิศิษฐ์กรณีย์ แยกซ้ายไปตามถนนนาใน ผ่านตลาดสดแม่อุบล (แม็คโครป่าตอง) แยกขวาถนนประชานุเคราะห์ ไปสุดเส้นทาง ที่จุดจอดรถประจำทางบริเวณหาดป่าตอง โดยจัดให้มีการเดินรถทุก 1 ชม. จากภูเก็ต ระหว่างเวลา 07.00 – 18.00 น. และจากป่าตอง ระหว่างเวลา 06.00 – 17.00 น. อัตราค่าโดยสาร 50 บาท นักเรียนได้รับการลดหย่อนค่าโดยสารครึ่งราคา ตลอดสาย กำหนดจุดจอด รับ-ส่งผู้โดยสารระหว่างเส้นทาง จำนวน 7 จุด ประกอบด้วย หน้าศาลากลางจังหวัดภูเก็ต หน้าเรือนจำจังหวัดภูเก็ต หน้าโรงเรียนภูเก็ตวิทยาลัย หน้าโรงพยาบาลวชิระ หน้าโรงพยาบาลกรุงเทพ หน้าโรงเรียนเทศบาลบ้านสามกอง และหน้าโลตัสสามกอง สำหรับการจัดให้มีการเดินรถตู้โดยสารประจำทาง สายภูเก็ต – ป่าตอง เพื่อเป็นการอำนวยความสะดวกแก่ประชาชน ตลอดจนนักท่องเที่ยว ผู้ใช้บริการรถตู้โดยสารสายดังกล่าว ให้ได้รับความสะดวก ปลอดภัย ในการเดินทางมากยิ่งขึ้นและเป็นการเพิ่มทางเลือกให้กับผู้ใช้บริการอีกหนึ่งช่องทาง รวมถึงเป็นการพัฒนาระบบการขนส่งประจำทางด้วยรถโดยสารให้มีประสิทธิภาพต่อไปในอนาคต
