เมื่อวันที่ 28 พฤศจิกายน 2559 เวลา 11.00 น นายโชคชัย เดชอมรธัญ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต พร้อมด้วย พลเรือโทสุรพล คุปตะพันธ์ ผู้บัญชาการทัพเรือภาคที่ 3 ,พลตรีอาคม พงศ์พรหม ผู้บัญชาการมณฑลทหารบกที่ 41 และคณะ ลงพื้นที่หาดสุรินทร์ อำเภอถลาง จังหวัดภูเก็ต จัดระเบียบชายหาดตามนโยบายของรัฐบาล โดยเบื้องต้นผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ตและคณะได้ พูดคุยขอความมือกับผู้ประกอบการ ผู้จำหน่ายสินค้า อาหาร หาบเร่ และแผงลอย บริเวณชายหาดให้ปฏิบัติตามระเบียบของทางราชการไม่รุกล้ำชายหาดสาธารณะและให้ช่วยกันรักษาความสะอาด

จังหวัดภูเก็ตจะดำเนินการบังคับใช้กฎหมายอย่างเข้มงวด โดยสนธิกำลังกับ แม่ทัพภาคที่ 4 ,ทัพเรือภาคที่ 3 และร่วมกับหน่วยงานภาครัฐ องค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นที่เกี่ยวข้อง ดำเนินการจัดระเบียบชายหาดอย่างจริงจัง ตามนโยบายของคณะรักษาความสงบแห่งชาติ (คสช.) โดยรื้อสิ่งปลูกสร้างรุกล้ำชายหาด ร่ม เตียง ร้านอาหาร แผงลอย หาบเร่ ออกจากชายหาด เพื่อคืนชายหาดให้กับประชาชน และนักท่องเที่ยว พร้อมจะให้มีการพัฒนาต่อยอดการจัดระเบียบไปเรื่อยๆ เพื่อให้คงความเป็นธรรมชาติ เพื่อเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่สวยงามคู่กับเกาะภูเก็ต ต่อไป

ทั้งนี้ในส่วนของการจัดระเบียบและโซนนิ่งต่าง ๆ ได้มอบหมายให้นายอำเภอถลางเป็นผู้รับผิดชอบในการกำหนดโซนนิ่ง เช่น โซนจำหน่ายอาหาร เพื่อความเป็นระเบียบเรียบร้อยของชายหาดสาธารณะ

นายโชคชัย เดชอมรธัญ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต ได้มอบหมายให้องค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นในพื้นที่อำเภอถลาง ดำเนินการปรับปรุงเรื่องถนน ระบบไฟฟ้าแสงสว่าง และห้องสุขาเพื่ออำนวยความสะดวกและให้บริการแก่ประชาชนและนักท่องเที่ยวด้วย
