นายสำราญ ยุคุณธร เปิดเผยถึงการจับกุมครั้งนี้ว่า สืบเนื่องจากชุดเฉพาะกิจยาเสพติดอำเภอเมืองภูเก็ต ภายใต้การอำนวยการของ นายสุพจน์ ชนะกิจ ผู้อำนวยการศูนย์ฯ ได้รับแจ้งจากสายลับว่า นายบุญเลิศ รอดยอด มีพฤติกรรมเสพ และจำหน่ายยาบ้าให้แก่วัยรุ่นในพื้นที่ ม.5.ต.รัษฎา โดยทางเจ้าหน้าที่เฝ้าติดตามดูพฤติกรรมมาหลายวัน จนกระทั่ง ตนได้นำกำลังลงตรวจสอบบ้านหลังดังกล่าว เห็น นายบุญเลิศ กำลังให้อาหารนกอยู่หน้าบ้านจึงขอเข้าตรวจค้น และพบยาบ้าจำนวนหนึ่ง และซุกซ่อนอยู่ภายในบ้านอีกจำนวนหนึ่ง จึงได้ควบคุมตัวมาสอบสวนที่ว่าการอำเภอเมืองภูเก็ต
จากการสอบถาม นายบุญเลิศ ผู้ต้องหาให้การรับสารภาพ ว่า ยาบ้าทั้งหมดเป็นของตนจริง โดยสั่งชื้อมาจากเครือข่ายยาเสพติดเรือนจำนครศรีธรรมราช เพื่อจำหน่ายให้แก่ลูกค้าในพื้นที่ และส่วนหนึ่งเก็บไว้เสพเอง นอกจากนี้ เจ้าหน้าที่ยังตรวจปัสสาวะพบเป็นสีม่วง อย่างไรก็ตาม ทางเจ้าหน้าที่ได้แจ้งข้อหามียาเสพติดให้โทษประเภท 1 (ยาบ้า) ไว้ในครอบครองเพื่อจำหน่ายก่อนนำตัวส่งพนักงานสอบสวน สภ.เมืองภูเก็ต เพื่อดำเนินคดีตามกฎหมายต่อไป
