จังหวัดภูเก็ตช่วยเหลือเด็กก่อนวัยเรียนที่ครอบครัวมีฐานะยากจนและด้อยโอกาส จัดทอดผ้าป่าสมทบกองทุนพัฒนาเด็กชนบทในพระราชูปถัมภ์สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาสยามบรมราชกุมารี ปี 2559 
เมื่อวันที่ 8 เมษายน  2559  เวลา 10.30 น. ที่วัดวิชิตสังฆาราม นายจำเริญ ทิพญพงศ์ธาดา ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นประธานในการทอดผ้าป่าสมทบกองทุนพัฒนาเด็กชนบทจังหวัดภูเก็ตปี 2559 โดยมีนางวาสนา ทิพญพงศ์ธาดา นายกเหล่ากาชาดจังหวัดภูเก็ต นางวันทนา ไฝสีดำ พัฒนาการจังหวัดภูเก็ตหัวหน้าส่วนราชการ และภาคเอกชน เข้าร่วม

นางวันทนา ไฝสีดำ กล่าวว่า กองทุนพัฒนาเด็กชนบทได้จัดตั้งขึ้นโดยกรมการพัฒนาชุมชนกระทรวงมหาดไทยตั้งแต่ปีพ.ศ. 2522 โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อช่วยเหลือเด็กก่อนวัยเรียนที่ครอบครัวมีฐานะยากจนและด้อยโอกาสในชนบทให้ได้รับการพัฒนาทางด้านร่างกายจิตใจ อารมณ์ สังคมและด้านสติปัญญาให้มีความเจริญเติบโต เป็นประชากรที่มีคุณภาพของประเทศและในวันที่ 17 มีนาคม 2536 สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาสยามบรมราชกุมารี ทรงรับกองทุนพัฒนาเด็กชนบทไว้ในราชูปถัมภ์โดยพระราชทานพระราชานุญาติให้ใช้ชื่อว่า กองทุนพัฒนาเด็กชนบทในพระราชูปถัมภ์สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาสยามบรมราชกุมารี กระทรวงมหาดไทยได้อนุมัติให้กรมการพัฒนาชุมชนจัดกิจกรรมทอดผ้าป่า ทั้งในส่วนกลางและส่วนภูมิภาค เป็นประจำทุกปี เพื่อจัดหารายได้สมทบกองทุนพัฒนาเด็กชนบทในพระราชูปถัมภ์และนำเงินไปช่วยเหลือเด็กวัยแรกเกิดถึง 6 ปี ในชนบท ที่ครอบครัวมีฐานะยากจนและสนับสนุนกิจกรรมการพัฒนาเด็ก ส่วนที่เกินขีดความสามารถของพื้นที่จะดำเนินการเองได้ ตลอดจนให้การช่วยเหลือครอบครัวเด็กที่ประสบภัยธรรมชาติ

การดำเนินงานกองทุนพัฒนาเด็กชนบทในพระราชูปถัมภ์สมเด็จพระเทพรัตน์ราชสุดาสยามบรมราชกุมารี ของจังหวัดภูเก็ตเริ่มดำเนินการตั้งแต่วันที่ 17 ธันวาคม 2536 โดยคณะกรรมการบริหารกองทุนพัฒนาเด็กชนบทจังหวัดภูเก็ต มีการจัดกิจกรรมเพื่อเพิ่มทุนในการทอดผ้าป่าสมทบกองทุนเป็นประจำทุกปีและได้นำเงินที่ได้มาเป็นทุนแก่เด็กที่ยากจนและขาดแคลนในชนบท ซึ่งในปีที่ผ่านมาได้สนับสนุนเป็นทุนแก่เด็กที่ยากจนจำนวน 120 ทุนเป็นเงิน 144,000.- บาท (หนึ่งแสนสี่หมื่นสี่พันบาทถ้วน) ขณะนี้มีเงินกองทุนฯ ทั้งสิ้น 1,270,433 .65 บาท (หนึ่งล้านสองแสนเจ็ดหมื่นสี่ร้อยสามสิบสามบาทหกสิบห้าสตางค์) และในปีนี้จังหวัดภูเก็ตได้กำหนดดำเนินการทอดผ้าป่าเพื่อสมทบกองทุนพัฒนาเด็กมีผู้ร่วมสมทบทอดผ้าป่าในครั้งนี้เป็นเงิน 51,911 บาท (ห้าหมื่นหนึ่งพันเก้าร้อยสิบเอ็ดบาทถ้วน)
