สำนักงานพลังงานจังหวัดภูเก็ต ประชุมรับฟังความคิดเห็นและสรุปผลการดำเนินการขับเคลื่อนยุทธศาสตร์ด้านการอนุรักษ์พลังงาน 
ที่ห้องประชุมเห็นเฮนาคา โรงแรมรอยัลภูเก็ตซิตี้ จังหวัดภูเก็ต โดยสำนักงานพลังงานจังหวัดภูเก็ต จัดประชุมรับฟังความคิดเห็นและสรุปผลการดำเนินการศึกษาของโครงการศึกษาเพื่อขับเคลื่อนยุทธศาสตร์ด้านการอนุรักษ์พลังงานจังหวัดภูเก็ต หลังจากที่ได้มีการว่าจ้างมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี เป็นที่ปรึกษาดำเนินโครงการ ฯ โดยมีคณะทำงานขับเคลื่อนโครงฯ ซึ่งประกอบด้วยหัวหน้าส่วนราชการ และหน่วยงานภาคเอกชนที่เกี่ยวข้อง อาทิ พลังงานจังหวัด, เจ้าท่าภูมิภาค สาขาภูเก็ต, การไฟฟ้าส่วนภูมิภาค สาขาภูเก็ต, สมาคมธุรกิจการท่องเที่ยวจังหวัดภูเก็ต สมาคมอสังหาริมทรัพย์ภูเก็ต เป็นต้น ทั้งนี้เพื่อเร่งรัดติดตามการดำเนินโครงการให้เป็นไปตามกรอบระยะเวลาที่กำหนดให้ความเห็น ข้อเสนอแนะและคำแนะนำในการดำเนินโครงการได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและประสิทธิผล รวมทั้งปฏิบัติหน้าที่อื่นตามที่ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ตมอบหมาย

การจัดทำโครงการศึกษาเพื่อขับเคลื่อนยุทธศาสตร์ด้านการอนุรักษ์พลังงานจังหวัดภูเก็ตนั้นสืบเนื่องจากภาคใต้ของประเทศไทยมีการใช้พลังงานไฟฟ้ามากกว่ากำลังที่ผลิตได้และไม่มีเพียงพอใช้เองในพื้นที่โดยมีกำลังผลิตประมาณ 1,600 MW แต่มีปริมาณการใช้ทั้งหมดประมาณ 2,450 MW โดยส่วนที่เกินต้องพึ่งพา พลังงานไฟฟ้าจากภาคกลางและประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน คือ มาเลเซีย ดังนั้นการบริหารจัดการด้านพลังงานไฟฟ้าให้มีการใช้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพจึงเป็นทางเลือกที่ดีทางหนึ่งในการสร้างความมั่นคงด้านพลังงานไฟฟ้าในพื้นที่ได้ดังนั้นหากสามารถดำเนินการลดความต้องการไฟฟ้าได้ร้อยละ 10 หรือประมาณ 245 MW จะสามารถเพิ่มความมั่นคงด้านไฟฟ้าในภาคใต้ได้ และสามารถลดการลงทุนในการสร้างโรงไฟฟ้าได้ไม่น้อยกว่า 1 หมื่นล้านบาท เป็นต้น

เพื่อเป็นการสร้างต้นแบบและนำร่องเป็นตัวอย่างให้กับจังหวัดในภาคใต้ได้เป็นตัวอย่างในการดำเนินการจึงพิจารณาเลือกจังหวัดภูเก็ตเป็นตัวอย่างในการดำเนินการซึ่งจังหวัดภูเก็ตมีการใช้ไฟฟ้าประมาณ 320 MW มีนักท่องเที่ยวประมาณ 12 ล้านคนต่อปีและเป็นจังหวัดอยู่ใกล้สายส่งไฟฟ้าและเป็นจังหวัดที่มีศักยภาพสูงโดยกลุ่มเป้าหมายประกอบด้วยโรงแรมศูนย์การค้าโรงพยาบาลหน่วยงานราชการและโรงงานอุตสาหกรรม ทั้งนี้วัตถุประสงค์ของการจัดทำโครงการฯ เพื่อศึกษาวิจัยแนวทาง และรูปแบบการดำเนินการส่งเสริมให้เกิดการประหยัดพลังงานอย่างเป็นรูปธรรมมีความเหมาะสมกับผู้ประกอบการในภูเก็ต ได้แนวทางบูรณาการสร้างความร่วมมือกับหน่วยงานภาครัฐและหน่วยงานท้องถิ่น ตลอดจนภาคเอกชนเพื่อที่จะดำเนินการส่งเสริมร่วมกัน สร้างกระแสการอนุรักษ์พลังงาน ให้กับผู้ประกอบการบุคลากรในจังหวัดภูเก็ตและได้ต้นแบบการขับเคลื่อนยุทธศาสตร์ด้านการอนุรักษ์พลังงานสำหรับจังหวัดอื่น
