เมื่อวันที่ 13 เมษายน 2559 ที่ศูนย์ป้องกันและบรรเทาสาธารณภัยเขต 18 ภูเก็ต นายจำเริญ ทิพญพงศ์ธาดา ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นประธานการประชุมสรุปผลการดำเนินการป้องกันและลดอุบัติเหตุทางถนนและทางทะเล ช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์ปี 2559 โดยมีนายขจรเกียรติ รักพานิชมณี รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต นายศิริศักดิ์ สกุลโสรัจจะ ป้องกันและบรรเทาสาธารณภัยจังหวัดภูเก็ต และหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องเข้าร่วม
ผลการดำเนินการป้องกันและลดอุบัติเหตุทางถนนและทางทะเล ช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์ปี 2559 วันที่สองของเทศกาล 12 เมษายนที่ผ่านมา มีอุบัติเหตุทางถนนเกิดขึ้นรวม 10 ครั้ง มีผู้บาดเจ็บรวม 11 คน พฤติกรรมเสี่ยงและสาเหตุสูงสุด เกิดจากการเมาสุรา 2 ครั้ง ตัดหน้ากระชั้นชิด 3 ครั้ง และทัศนวิสัยไม่ดี 1 ครั้ง ขับรถเร็วเกินกำหนด 1 ครั้ง และมีสิ่งกีดขวางบนถนน 3 ครั้ง ประเภทยานพาหนะที่เกิดอุบัติเหตุสูงสุด ได้แก่ มอเตอร์ไซค์ จำนวน 7 ครั้ง และมีการยึดรถผู้เมาแล้วขับจำนวน 34 คันเป็นรถยนต์ 6 คัน รถยนต์โดยสารสาธารณะ 1 คัน รถจักรยานยนต์ 26 คัน และรถจักรยานยนต์รับจ้าง 1 คัน
ขณะที่การดำเนินการป้องกันและลดอุบัติเหตุทางทะเล ยังไม่มีอุบัติเหตุเกิดขึ้น แต่เจ้าท่าภูมิภาคสาขาภูเก็ต และตำรวจน้ำ ยังคงปฏิบัติหน้าที่ควบคุมตรวจสอบคนเรือและเรือโดยสารอย่างต่อเนื่อง โดยเรือจะต้องไม่บรรทุกน้ำหนักเกิน และผู้โดยสารจะต้องสวมเสื้อชูชีพตลอดเวลา และมีการสุ่มตรวจสารเสพติดของคนเรือตามท่าเรือต่างๆ เช่น ที่ท่าเรืออ่าวฉลอง และท่าเรือเกาะเฮ
