เมื่อวันที่ 15 ธันวาคม 2559 เวลา16.30 น. นางสาวสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา นายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ต พร้อมด้วยหัวหน้าส่วนราชการ ร่วมงาน Thailand Yacht Show 2016 ครั้งที่ ๒ โดยมีพลเอกธนะศักดิ์ ปฏิมาประกร รองนายกรัฐมนตรีเป็นประธานเปิดงาน Thailand Yacht Show 2016 พร้อมด้วย นางกอบกาญจน์ วัฒนวรางกูร รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการท่องเที่ยวและกีฬา ,นายออมสิน ชีวะพฤกษ์ รัฐมนตรีช่วยว่าการกระทรวงคมนาคม,นายยุทธศักดิ์ สุภสร ผู้ว่าการการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย, นายโชคชัย เดชอมรธัญ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต, นายสนิท ศรีวิหค, นางศิวพร ฉั่วสวัสดิ์, รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เข้าร่วม ณ อ่าวปอ แกรนด์ มารีนา จังหวัดภูเก็ต
งานมหกรรมเรือสำราญและมารีน่า (Thailand Yacht Show – TYS) ครั้งที่ 2กำหนดจัด ระหว่างวันที่ 15-18 ธันวาคม 2559 ที่จังหวัดภูเก็ต โดยมีกระทรวงการท่องเที่ยวและกีฬา กระทรวงคมนาคม และการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทยร่วมเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดงาน ซึ่งมีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อส่งเสริมประชาสัมพันธ์ศักยภาพของไทยในการเป็นศูนย์กลางการท่องเที่ยวทางน้ำและเรือสำราญในภูมิภาคเอเชีย (Marina Hub of Asia) เพื่อดึงดูดนักท่องเที่ยวระดับบน และดำเนินการตามนโยบายของรัฐบาลในการส่งเสริมการพัฒนาท่าเทียบเรือสำราญ (Yacht) และท่าเทียบเรือโดยสารเพื่อการท่องเที่ยวขนาดใหญ่ (Cruise) ของไทย เพื่อก้าวไปสู่การเป็นศูนย์กลางการท่องเที่ยวทางทะเลในลักษณะ “แคริบเบียนแห่งที่สอง” หรือ “เมดิเตอร์เรเนียนแห่งที่สอง” ตลอดจนการส่งเสริมอุตสาหกรรมต่อเนื่อง เช่น การซ่อม/ต่อเรือ รวมทั้งการกระจายรายได้และยกระดับฝีมือ/ความชำนาญของคนเรือของไทย
กิจกรรมภายในงานฯ ประกอบด้วย การนำเสนอความพร้อมของไทยในการรองรับการมาเยือนของนักท่องเที่ยวทางน้ำ,การจัดแสดงเรือสำราญ เรือยอชท์ 43 ลำ และการเปิดตัวเรือสำราญขนาดใหญ่ (Super Yacht) และการจัดให้ผู้เข้าร่วมงาน ผู้ซื้อที่มีศักยภาพ ทดสอบเรือ (Sea Trials),กิจกรรมส่งเสริมประชาสัมพันธ์ศักยภาพของท่าเทียบเรือ การบริการบนชายฝั่ง การสาธิตกิจกรรมกีฬาและอุปกรณ์กีฬาทางน้ำ (Demo Platform),การสัมมนาที่เกี่ยวข้อง,การจัดแสดงเรือหลวงและนิทรรศการ เพื่อเป็นการน้อมรำลึกถึงพระราชกรณียกิจในการส่งเสริมอุตสาหกรรมการต่อเรือของไทยและ พระปรีชาสามารถด้านการทรงเรือใบของพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช
