เมื่อวันที่ 25 พฤศจิกายน 2557 เวลา 08.30 น. เทศบาลนครภูเก็ต โดย นางสาวสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา นายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ต เป็นประธานในพิธีถวายราชสักการะหน้าพระบรมราชานุสาวรีย์ และถวายราชสดุดี และประกอบพิธีสงฆ์ เพื่อเทิดพระเกียรติ และน้อมรำลึกถึงพระมหากรุณาธิคุณ พระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 6 เนื่องในวันพระมหาธีรราชเจ้า พร้อมด้วย นางวาสนา ทิพญพงศ์ธาดา รองนายกเหล่ากาชาดจังหวัดภูเก็ต นายกวี ตันสุคตานนท์ รองนายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ต คณะครู นักเรียนโรงเรียนเทศบาลปลูกปัญญา ในพระอุปถัมภ์ฯ คณะกรรมการสถานศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน คณะกรรมการศิษย์เก่า คณะกรรมการบริหารชมรมผู้ปกครอง องค์กรภาครัฐ – เอกชน ณ โรงเรียนเทศบาลปลูกปัญญา ในพระอุปภัมภ์ฯ
         พระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 6 ทรงประกอบพระราชกรณียกิจนานัปการ อันเป็นคุณประโยชน์แก่ประเทศชาติและพสกนิกรชาวไทยอย่างล้นพ้น ทั้งด้านการทหาร ที่ทรงริเริ่มให้มีการฝึกหัดวิชาทหาร เป็นหน่วยสนับสนุนกองทัพในยามที่ประเทศมีภัยสงคราม ซึ่งเป็นต้นแบบของการฝึกวิชารักษาดินแดน แก่เยาวชนไทยในปัจจุบัน ทรงมีพระราชปณิธานในการจัดตั้งหน่วยทหารในพื้นที่ภาคใต้ ณ จังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช เป็นแห่งแรก จนมาเป็น กองทัพภาคที่ 4 ในปัจจุบัน ทรงก่อตั้งกิจการเสือป่าและลูกเสือ พัฒนาด้านการคมนาคม การปกครอง รวมทั้ง ศิลปวัฒนธรรมและวรรณคดี นอกจากนี้ ทรงริเริ่มใช้นามสกุล คำนำหน้า ขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรก มีการใช้ธงไตรรงค์เป็นธงประจำชาติ และเมื่อสงครามโลก ครั้งที่ 1 ประเทศไทยได้รับสิทธิ์เสมอภาคทางการเมือง ซึ่งเป็นผลมาจากการส่งทหารเข้าร่วมสงคราม จนได้รับการขนานนามว่า “สมเด็จมหาธีรราชเจ้า” และพระองค์ทรงเสด็จสวรรคต เมื่อวันที่ 25 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2468 จึงถือเอาวันดังกล่าว เป็นวันมหาธีรราชเจ้า มาจนถึงปัจจุบัน
