เมื่อวันที่ 27 ธันวาคม  2559 เวลา 09.00  น.นางสาวสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา นายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ต ร่วมประชุมกรมการจังหวัดและหัวหน้าส่วนราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต ครั้งที่ 12 ประจำปี 2559 พร้อมรับโล่ประกาศเกียรติคุณหน่วยงานที่สนับสนุนกิจกรรมด้านกีฬาดีเด่น เพื่อเฉลิมพระเกียรติพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช โดยมีนายโชคชัย เดชอมรธัญ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นประธานในการประชุมกรมการจังหวัดและหัวหน้าส่วนราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต ณ ห้องประชุมชั้น 2 อาคารคอซิมบี้ ศาลากลางจังหวัดภูเก็ต

การมอบรางวัล โล่ประกาศเกียรติคุณกับหน่วยงานที่สนับสนุนกิจกรรมด้านกีฬาดีเด่น ในรอบปี 2559 จัดขึ้นเนื่องจากในเดือนธันวาคมของทุกปี รัฐบาลกำหนดให้วันที่ 16 ธันวาคม เป็นวันกีฬาแห่งชาติเพื่อเฉลิมพระเกียรติและน้อมรำลึกถึงสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช ที่ทรงเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันกีฬาแหลมทองครั้งที่ 4 เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2510 ดังนั้นทุกจังหวัดจึงได้จัดกิจกรรมกีฬาและการเลือกบุคคลและหน่วยงานต่างๆ ที่สนับสนุนกีฬาในรอบปี ในส่วนของจังหวัดภูเก็ตมีทั้งหมด 12 หน่วยงานที่เข้าร่วมรับรางวัลประกาศเกียรติคุณในครั้งนี้
