ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ตและผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องศึกษาดูความก้าวหน้าด้านเทคโนโลยีของระบบขนส่งมวลชนเตรียมเสนอข้อมูลให้รัฐบาลประกอบการพิจารณาโครงการรถไฟฟ้ารางเบาของจังหวัดภูเก็ต

วันที่ 18-22 ธันวาคม 2559 นายโชคชัย เดชอมรธัญ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต พร้อมด้วย นายสนิท ศรีวิหค รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต นายศิริเกษ อภิรัตน์ เลขานุการคณะกรรมการกำกับการศึกษาโครงการขนส่งมวลชน หรือ สนข. และคณะ เดินทางไปยังเมืองฉางชา สาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน เพื่อศึกษาดูงานระบบขนส่งมวลชน และระบบเทคโนโลยีในการผลิตรถไฟฟ้า ที่บริษัท CRRC ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทผลิตยานพาหนะไฟฟ้าและระบบขนส่งมวลชนทุกประเภท ทั้งรถไฟความเร็วสูง รถไฟความเร็วต่ำ รถไฟฟ้าแม่เหล็ก รถรางไฟฟ้า หรือ ทรัม (Trum) เพื่อเป็นข้อมูลนำเสนอรัฐบาลประกอบการพิจารณาการดำเนินโครงการรถไฟฟ้าระบบขนส่งมวลชน จังหวัดภูเก็ต ซึ่งขณะนี้มีความคืบหน้าไปกว่า 80% และคาดว่า อีก 2 เดือนข้างหน้ารัฐบาลจะระบุความชัดเจนในแนววิธีการดำเนินงานรวมทั้งแหล่งทุนที่จะใช้ในการก่อสร้าง
