ที่ห้องประชุมสำนักงานเทศบาลนครภูเก็ต นายจำเริญ ทิพญพงศ์ธาดา ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นประธานในการประชุมเรื่องอุตสาหกรรมไมซ์กับการขับเคลื่อนเศรษฐกิจสู่เมือง โดยมี นพ.โกศล แตงอุทัย รองนายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ต ตัวแทนจากสำนักงานส่งเสริมการจัดประชุมและนิทรรสการ (องค์กรมหาชน) และส่วนราชการที่เกี่ยวข้องเข้าร่วม

สำนักงานส่งเสริมการจัดประชุมและนิทรรศการ (องค์กรมหาชน) ได้ร่วมกับทางจังหวัดภูเก็ตและเทศบาลนครภูเก็ต ได้ร่วมประชุมหารือในการส่งเสริมอุตสาหกรรมไมซ์ เพื่อเป็นการนำรายได้เข้าสู่ประเทศและจังหวัดภูเก็ต ซึ่งอุตสาหกรรมไมซ์ถือเป็นอุตสาหกรรมที่ช่วยสร้างเม็ดเงินในอุตสาหกรรมบริการและจะมีธุรกิจต่าง ๆ เกี่ยวข้องเป็นห่วงโซ่ไม่ว่าจะเป็นโรงแรม ร้านอาหาร แหล่งท่องเที่ยว การขนส่ง เป็นต้น การส่งเสริมอุตสาหกรรมไมซ์หรือการจัดประชุมในเรื่องต่าง ๆ ก็จะทำให้มีผู้คนจากต่างประเทศเดินทางมาร่วมประชุมเป็นจำนวนมากในแต่ละครั้ง และจะมีผลต่อเนื่องในทางธุรกิจตามาทั้งในด้านการท่องเที่ยวและอื่น ๆ อีกมากมาย ถ้าหากมีการส่งเสริมธุรกิจไมซ์อย่างจริงจังในจังหวัดภูเก็ต ก็จะทำให้จังหวัดภูเก็ตมีรายได้เพิ่มขึ้น นอกเหนือจากธุรกิจท่องเที่ยวอย่างที่เป็นอยู่ในปัจจุบัน แต่ทั้งนี้ก็ต้องมีการพัฒนาในอีก หลาย ๆ ด้านไม่ว่าจะเป็นการคมนาคมขนส่ง และสาธารณูปโภคอื่น ๆ เพื่อเป็นการอำนวยความสะดวกแก่ผู้ที่จะมาเข้าร่วมประชุมจากนานาประเทศต่อไป
