จังหวัดภูเก็ตเร่งจัดระเบียบรถเช่าเพื่อหามาตรการในการควบคุมดูแลความปลอดภัยแก่นักท่องเที่ยวที่เช่ารถ
เมื่อวันที่ 8 กรกฎาคม  2559 ที่ห้องประชุมศูนย์ปฏิบัติการจังหวัดภูเก็ต (POC) นายโชคดี อมรวัฒน์ รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นประธานการประชุมคณะกรรมการกำกับดูแลรถเช่าจังหวัดภูเก็ต ครั้งที่ 2/2559 โดยมีคณะกรรมการที่เกี่ยวข้อง อาทิ เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจ ผู้แทนแขวงทางหลวงภูเก็ต ผู้แทนขนส่งจังหวัดภูเก็ต ผู้แทนท้องถิ่นจังหวัด เป็นต้น เข้าร่วม ทั้งนี้เพื่อหาแนวทางและมาตรการกำกับดูแลรถเช่าในจังหวัดภูเก็ตให้เกิดความเรียบร้อย

นายโชคดี อมรวัฒน์ กล่าวว่า เนื่องจากจังหวัดภูเก็ต มีนักท่องเที่ยวเดินทางเข้ามาจำนวนมาก ซึ่งบางครั้งนักท่องเที่ยวได้เช่ารถจากร้านต่างๆ โดยเฉพาะรถมอเตอร์ไซด์ ซึ่งมีความอันตรายอย่างมาก เพราะนักท่องเที่ยวไม่ชำนาญเส้นทางประกอบกับเส้นทางการขับรถมันต่างกัน ทำให้เกิดอุบัติเหตุจนเกิดทำให้เสียชีวิต นอกจากนี้ยังมีนักท่องเที่ยวที่บาดเจ็บและเสียชีวิตจากการเช่ารถแล้วไปเกิดอุบัติเหตุก็มีจำนวนไม่น้อย ดังนั้นจึงมีความจำเป็นที่จะต้องมีการจัดระเบียบรถเช่าให้ทำตามกฎหมายกำหนด ลดปัญหาการนำที่สาธารณะมาใช้เป็นที่จอดรถเช่าและลดการเกิดอุบัติเหตุบนท้องถนนของชาวต่างชาติ

จากการสำรวจข้อมูลรถเช่า พบว่า จังหวัดมีผู้ประกอบการให้เช่ารถจำนวน 197 ราย รถยนต์ 945 คัน และมอเตอร์ไซด์ จำนวน 1,285 คัน โดยส่วนใหญ่จะใช้พื้นที่ส่วนบุคคลเป็นที่จอดรถเช่า ยกเว้นพื้นที่ป่าตองที่มีปัญหาเรื่องที่จอดรถ โดยคณะกรรมการฯจะดำเนินการแก้ไขปัญหาเรื่องที่จอดรถในพื้นที่ป่าตองเป็นแห่งแรก
