เมื่อวันที่ 31 ธันวาคม 2559 เวลา 18.20 น.ที่บริเวณเวทีกลางสะพานหิน อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดภูเก็ต นายธีระ อนันตเสรีวิทยา พร้อมด้วย นางศิวพร ฉั่วสวัสดิ์ รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต นางระวีวรรณ เดชอมรธัญ นายกเหล่ากาชาดจังหวัดภูเก็ต ,แพทย์หญิงพนิดาอนันตเสรีวิทยาและนางลีดี ศรีวิหค รองนายกเหล่ากาชาดจังหวัดภูเก็ต, นางสาวสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา นายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ต ,นายถาวรวัฒน์ คงแก้ว ปลัดจังหวัดภูเก็ต,นางบุษยา ใจเปี่ยม ประชาสัมพันธ์จังหวัดภูเก็ต,นางสาวอโนมา วงษ์ใหญ่ ผู้อำนวยการ ททท. สำนักงานภูเก็ต ร่วมปล่อยนกพิราบเพื่อ แสดงความอาลัยถวายแด่พระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดชและแสดงสัญลักษณ์การลาแสงอาทิตย์สุดท้ายที่จังหวัดภูเก็ต

นางศิวพร ฉั่วสวัสดิ์ รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต นำกล่าวแสดงความอาลัยถวายแด่พระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุยเดชและถวายพระพรสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวมหาวชิราลงกรณบดินทรเทพยวรางกูร มีใจความว่าวันนี้เป็นวันที่แสงอาทิตย์สุดท้ายของปี 2559 จะลาลับขอบฟ้าสยามประเทศ สุดเขตน่านน้ำอันดามันไปแล้ว ขอให้ลาลับขอบฟ้าไปพร้อมกับปัญหาโรคภัยไข้เจ็บความขัดแย้งต่างๆ จากไปพร้อมกับแสงอาทิตย์สุดท้าย

สำหรับจังหวัดภูเก็ตในวันนี้จะมีการจัดกิจกรรมส่งท้ายปีเก่าต้อนรับปีใหม่ที่บริเวณเวทีกลางสะพานหิน อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดภูเก็ตในเวลา 22.00 น.เป็นต้นไป

นอกจากนี้มีการจัดกิจกรรมสวดมนต์ข้ามปีถวายเป็นพุทธบูชาและถวายเป็นพระราชกุศลแด่พระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช ที่วัดท่าเรือและที่วัดเชิงทะเลอำเภอถลางจังหวัดภูเก็ต ซึ่งจะมีการฉายวีดีทัศน์เฉลิมพระเกียรติพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดชฯและเจริญพระพุทธมนต์เจริญจิตภาวนาและสวดมนต์ถวายพระพร สมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวมหาวชิราลงกรณบดินทรเทพยวรางกูร ตามลำดับ
