เมื่อวันที่ 26 ธันวาคม 2558  เวลา 11.00 น. ที่ห้องประชุมตำรวจภูธร ภาค 8  พล.ต.อ.เฉลิมเกียรติ ศรีวรขาน รอง ผบ.ตร. เป็นประธานการประชุมทางไกลผ่านระบบวีดีโอคอนเฟอร์เรนท์ ไปยังตำรวจภูธรในสังกัดภูธรภาค 8 ในด้านการดูแลความปลอดภัยนักท่องเที่ยวช่วงเทศกาลปีใหม่ โดยมี พล.ต.ท.เทศา ศิราโท ผู้บัญชาการตำรวจภูธรภาค 8  พล.ต.ต.ชลิต แก้วยะรัตน์ รองผู้บัญชาการตำรวจภูธรภาค 8  พล.ต.ต.ชลิต ถิ่นธานี รองผู้บัญชาการตำรวจภูธรภาค 8  พล.ต.ต.ธีระพล ทิพยเจริญ ผบก.ภ.จว.ภูเก็ต และเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจเข้าร่วม

ภายหลังการประชุม รองผู้บัญชาการตำรวจแห่งชาติพร้อมคณะได้บินสำรวจเส้นทางจราจร สำรวจชายหาด และสถานที่จัดงานเคาท์ดาวน์ที่หนองน้ำในหาน แหลมพรหมเทพ ตำบลราไวย์ อำเภอเมืองจังหวัดภูเก็ต

พล.ต.อ.เฉลิมเกียรติ ศรีวรขาน กล่าวว่าการเดินทางมาวันนี้เพื่อมาประชุมทำความเข้าใจในการปฏิบัติหน้าที่ของเจ้าหน้าที่ในช่วงจัดงานเคาท์ดาวน์ข้ามปีในเขตพื้นที่รับผิดชอบของตำรวจภูธรภาค 8 และในจังหวัดภูเก็ตก็ได้มีการวางแผนดูแลความปลอดภัย ในทุกพื้นที่จัดงานเคาท์ดาวน์ รวมทั้งให้มีการซักซ้อมแผน พร้อมทั้งบูรณาการกำลังระหว่างตำรวจ ทหาร ฝ่ายปกครอง องค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นให้เป็นไปด้วยความเรียบร้อย อย่างไรก็ตามในส่วนของจังหวัดภูเก็ตค่อนข้างจะมีความพร้อม จึงไม่มีความหนักใจแต่อย่างใด

พล.ต.ท.เทศา กล่าวว่าในส่วนของจังหวัดภูเก็ต ทางตำรวจภูธรภาค 8 ได้เตรียมกำลังเจ้าหน้าที่มาเสริมความพร้อม โดยมีรองผู้บัญชาการตำรวจภูธรภาค 8 ควบคุมปฏิบัติอีกชั้น ทั้งนี้ในพื้นที่จัดงานเคาท์ดาวน์ในพื้นที่ภาค 8 ทั้งเกาะพงัน เกาะสมุย จังหวัดสุราษฏร์ธานี ก็ได้กำชับผู้บังคับการฯจัดกำลังเจ้าหน้าที่ไปดูแลรักษาความเรียบร้อย โดยเน้นการเฝ้าระวังไม่ให้มีการสูญเสียชีวิตในช่วงเทศกาลปีใหม่
