เมื่อวันที่ 22 กุมภาพันธ์ 2559  เวลา 19.30 น. ที่วัดมงคลนิมิต พระอารามหลวง อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดภูเก็ต นายประเจียด อักษรธรรมกุล รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นประธานในกิจกรรมสัปดาห์ส่งเสริมพระพุทธศาสนาเนื่องในเทศกาลวันมาฆบูชา จังหวัดภูเก็ต ประจำปี 2559 พร้อมนำหัวหน้าส่วนราชการ พุทธศาสนิกชน ตลอดจนประชาชนทั่วไปในจังหวัดภูเก็ต ร่วมไหว้พระฟังธรรมเทศนา และเวียนเทียนเนื่องในวันมาฆบูชา

เพื่อความเป็นสิริมงคลแก่ตนเอง และครอบครัว และร่วมกันสืบทอดหลักคำสอนพระพุทธศาสนาให้คงอยู่ตลอดไป ซึ่งสามารถนำไปปรับใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันได้อย่างเหมาะสม
สำหรับวันมาฆบูชานั้น เป็นวันที่องค์สมเด็จพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ทรงแสดงโอวาทปาฏิโมกข์ ท่ามกลางที่ประชุมมหาสังฆสันนิบาตครั้งใหญ่ ในพระพุทธศาสนา โดยมีเหตุการณ์สำคัญเกิดขึ้นพร้อมกัน 4 ประการ คือ พระสงฆ์สาวกที่มาประชุมพร้อมกันทั้ง 1,250 รูป ได้มาประชุมกันยังวัดเวฬุวันโดยมิได้นัดหมาย พระสงฆ์ที่มาประชุมทั้งหมด ต่างล้วนเป็น “เอหิภิกขุอุปสัมปทา” คือผู้ได้รับการอุปสมบทจากพระพุทธเจ้าโดย พระสงฆ์ทั้งหมดที่มาประชุมล้วนเป็นพระอรหันต์ ผู้ทรงอภิญญา 6 และวันดังกล่าวตรงกับวันเพ็ญ มาฆปุรณมีดิถี ขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 3 ดังนั้น จึงมีคำเรียกวันนี้อีกคำหนึ่งว่า “วันจาตุรงคสันนิบาต” หรือวันที่มีการประชุมพร้อมด้วยองค์ 4.
