องค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัดภูเก็ต ร่วมกับศูนย์ป้องกันและบรรเทาสาธารณภัย เขต 18 ภูเก็ต จัดทำโครงการสร้างความเชื่อมั่นและจัดทำแผนการป้องกันและบรรเทาสาธารณภัย (สึนามิ) เพื่อเสริมสร้างความรู้เกี่ยวกับแผ่นดินไหว การเตรียมความพร้อมรับมือกับสึนามิ และร่วมกันกำหนดมาตรการพร้อมจัดทำแผนรับมือและตอบโต้ภัยพิบัติสึนามิอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม ทั้งนี้ เนื่องจากได้เล็งเห็นถึงความสำคัญของเหตุการณ์สึนามิที่เกิดขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 26 ธันวาคม 2547 ซึ่งถือเป็นการครบรอบ 10 ปี แห่งความตื่นตระหนกกับภัยพิบัติดังกล่าว และยังเป็นการรำลึกถึงความสูญเสียอันใหญ่หลวงที่มิอาจประเมินค่าได้ และคาดว่ายังมีผู้ที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากเหตุการณ์ในครั้งนั้นอีกจำนวนมากที่ยังทำใจให้ยอมรับในความสูญเสียคราวนั้นมิได้

การจัดโครงการฯ ในครั้งนี้ จึงเป็นการร่วมใจประสานพลังกันเสริมสร้างความเข้มแข็งให้กับประชาชนในจังหวัดภูเก็ต และทุกหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องในการเตรียมพร้อมรับมือกับภัยพิบัติสึนามิ เพื่อช่วยเสริมสร้างความมั่นใจให้กับสาธารณะว่าเมื่อก้าวเข้ามาสู่จังหวัดภูเก็ต จะมีวิธิการรับมือกับสกานการณ์อย่างเป็นระบบ พร้อมที่จะดูแลให้ทุกคนปลอดภัยจากสึนามิ
