นางสาวสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา นายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ต เป็นประธานเปิดโครงการการประกวดมารยาทไทย ประจำปี 2558 เพื่อเทิดพระเกียรติสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถครอบรอบ 83 พรรษา 12 สิงหาคมโดยมีคณะกรรมการจากสำนักงานวัฒนธรรมจังหวัดภูเก็ตและผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิด้านมารยาทไทยร่วมตัดสิน ณห้องประชุมโรงเรียนเทศบาลพิบูลสวัสดี

นางสาวสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา กล่าวว่า เทศบาลนครภูเก็ตมีหน้าที่ในการส่งเสริม อนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมและประเพณีที่ดีงามของชาติให้คงอยู่ ด้วยเล็งเห็นว่ากิจกรรมการประกวดมารยาทไทย เป็นอีกแนวทางหนึ่งที่จะส่งเสริมให้เด็ก เยาวชน ในระดับต่างๆได้มองเห็นความสำคัญของมารยาทไทยและสามารถนำไปใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันได้อย่างถูกต้อง เหมาะสมจนติดเป็นนิสัย ซึ่งการประกวดครั้งนี้มีฐานกิจกรรมประกวด จำนวน 4 ฐาน รวม 11 กิจกรรม แบ่งการประกวดออกเป็นระดับเตรียมอนุบาล อนุบาล ประถมศึกษา และระดับมัธยมศึกษา โดยมีสถานศึกษาที่ส่งเข้าประกวดในครั้งนี้ 49 โรงเรียน

นางสาวสมใจ กล่าวเพิ่มเติมว่า มารยาทไทยเป็นเอกลักษณ์และมรดกอันล้ำค่าของวัฒนธรรมไทย ที่ผูกพันกับวิถีชีวิตของคนไทย จนได้รับการยกย่องและยอมรับจากชาวต่างชาติว่า “ไม่มีใครไหว้ได้สวยเหมือนคนไทย” จึงสมควรอย่างยิ่งที่คนไทยทุกคนต้องอนุรักษ์และสืบสานวัฒนธรรมที่ดีงามให้คงอยู่คู่คนไทยตลอดไป
