เมื่อวันที่ 10 พฤษภาคม เวลา 15.00 น. เทศบาลนครภูเก็ต โดยนางสาวสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา นายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ตได้เปิดกิจกรรมการแข่งขันกีฬาชุมชนสัมพันธ์ ประจำปี 2558 พร้อมด้วยนายกวี ตัณสุคตานนท์ รองนายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ต สมาชิกสภาเทศบาล ปลัดเทศบาล หัวหน้าส่วนราชการ ประธานชุมชน และประชาชนที่เข้าร่วมในกิจกรรม ณ ศูนย์กีฬาสะพานหิน

นางสาวสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา กล่าวว่า คณะผู้บริหารเทศบาลนครภูเก็ต มีนโยบายให้การส่งเสริมและสนับสนุนการเสริมสร้างสุขภาพ พลานามัย ที่แข็งแรง ทั้งร่างกาย และจิตใจให้แก่เด็ก เยาวชน และประชาชนในชุมชน อีกทั้งยังเป็นการรู้จักใช้เวลาว่างให้เป็นประโยชน์ ลด ละ เลิก อบายมุขต่างๆ ตลอดจนเป็นการเชื่อมความรัก ความสามัคคี และความสัมพันธ์ อันดีระหว่างชุมชน และองค์กรของรัฐบาล

เพื่อเป็นการตอบสนองนโยบายของคณะผู้บริหารเทศบาลนครภูเก็ต กองสวัสดิการสังคม จึงกำหนดจัดการแข่งขันกีฬาชุมชนสัมพันธ์ ประจำปี 2558 ขึ้น ในวันอาทิตย์ที่ 10 พฤษภาคม 2558 ณ ศูนย์กีฬาสะพานหิน เทศบาลนครภูเก็ต การแข่งขันกีฬาชุมชนสัมพันธ์ในครั้งนี้ มีชุมชนในเขตเทศบาลนครภูเก็ต เข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน จำนวน 18 ชุมชน โดยจัดแบ่งชุมชนออกเป็น 4 สี ซึ่งแต่ละสี มีจำนวน 4-5 ชุมชน โดยประชาชนจากชุมชนที่เข้าร่วมทั้งหมด จำนวน 1,500 คน โดยแบ่งการแข่งขันออกเป็น 2 รอบ คือภาคเช้า ทำการแข่งขันกีฬาเปตอง จำนวน 18 ทีม และภาคบ่ายทำการแข่งขันกีฬาพื้นบ้าน จำนวน 9 ประเภท
