ความคืบหน้ากรณีเกิดเหตุ 2 คนร้ายใช้อาวุธปืนไม่ทราบขนาดยิงนายวีรชาติ คะหะปะนะ อายุ 49 ปี หรือ โต๊ะอิหม่ามดำ โต๊ะอิหม่ามมัสยิดบ้านบางแป ต.ป่าคลอก อ.ถลาง จ.ภูเก็ต และรองประธานคณะกรรมการอิสลามประจำ จ.ภูเก็ต เหตุเกิดภายในซอยเกาะแก้ว 24 (ซอยศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กเล็ก) ต.เกาะแก้ว อ.เมืองภูเก็ต เมื่อเวลา 19.45.00 น. วันที่ 4 สิงหาคม ที่ผ่านมา ระหว่างขับรถยนต์เก๋งยี่ห้อฮอนด้ารุ่นซิตี้ สีบรอนซ์-เงิน ทะเบียน กน 3203 ภูเก็ต พร้อมด้วยลูกชายวัย 3 ขวบ เพื่อเดินทางไปละหมาด โดยกระสุนปืนโดนเข้าที่ชายโครงด้านซ้าย 1 นัด ล่าสุดอาการพ้นขีดอันตรายแล้ว แต่ยังไม่สามารถให้ปากคำได้ ส่วนลูกชายปลอดภัยไม่โดยอาวุธปืนแต่อย่างใด

ขณะที่คนร้าย ถูกนายวีรชาติผู้เสียหายขับรถพุ่งชนจนกระเด็นตกจากรถจักรยานยนต์คันที่ใช้ก่อเหตุซึ่งถูกอัดติดอยู่ใต้ท้องรถยนต์ได้รับบาดเจ็บเช่นกัน หลังเกิดเหตุได้หลบหนีออกจากที่เกิดเหตุไปยังซอยเกาะแก้ว 22 ซึ่งอยู่ใกล้กันและขโมยรถจักรยานยนต์ของชาวบ้านที่จอดอยู่ขับไปรักษาตัวที่โรงพยาบาลถลาง อ.ถลาง ก่อนจะถูกส่งตัวมายังโรงพยาบาลวชิระภูเก็ต อ.เมืองภูเก็ต เนื่องจากอาการสาหัส โดยทางเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจได้ทำการควบคุมตัวไว้แล้ว และสอบปากคำเบื้องต้นยังให้การปฏิเสธ ทราบชื่อคือ นายธณชัย ชูทอง อายุ 24 ปี ชาว จ.ตรัง และนายวิสุทธ์ ยกย่อง อายุ 23 ปี ชาว จ.ภูเก็ต

ความคืบหน้าส่วนเรื่องของคดีล่าสุด พล.ต.ต.ธีระพล ทิพย์เจริญ ผู้บังคับการตำรวจภูธรจังหวัดภูเก็ต กล่าวว่า หลังเกิดเหตุทางเจ้าหน้าที่ได้ติดตามตัวคนร้ายในทันที จนกระทั่งสามารถควบคุมตัวคนร้ายทั้ง 2 คน คือนายธณชัย ชูทอง กับนายวิสุทธ์ ยกย่อง ได้ตั้งแต่ช่วงกลางดึกของคืนที่ผ่านมาหลังจากที่เข้ารับการรักษาตัวที่โรงพยาบาลถลาง และถูกส่งตัวมายังโรงพยาบาลวชิระภูเก็ต เนื่องจากอาการสาหัส แต่ขณะนี้ทั้งสองคนยังให้การปฏิเสธ แต่ทางเจ้าหน้าที่ได้ทำการเก็บหลักฐานในที่เกิดเหตุ โดยเฉพาะหลักฐานของร้าย ซึ่งมีทั้งหมวกกันน๊อค จำนวน 2 ใบ รถเท้าแตะ โทรศัพท์มือถือของคนร้าย 1 เครื่อง เพื่อนำไปตรวจสอบตามหลักนิติวิทยาศาสตร์ รวมทั้งหาหลักฐานเพิ่มเติม โดยจัดชุดลงพื้นที่เพื่อหาอาวุธปืนที่คนใช้ในการก่อเหตุ
ส่วนมูลเหตุของเหตุการณ์ในครั้งนี้ เบื้องต้นคาดว่าน่าจะเป็นปัญหาการบริหารงานภายในของคณะกรรมการอิสลามประจำ จ.ภูเก็ต และก่อนหน้านี้ผู้เสียหายเคยถูกยิงข่มขู่ และได้มาพบตน ซึ่งก็ได้มีการจัดชุดเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจไปคอยดูแล ซึ่งในส่วนของผู้เสียหายนั้นก็มีความระมัดระวังตัวอยู่แล้ว ส่วนประเด็นอื่นๆ เนื่องจากผู้เสียหายเป็นโต๊ะอิหม่าม จึงไม่น่าจะมีความขัดแย้งอื่นๆ ในส่วนของของคนร้ายนั้น จากการตรวจสอบนายธนชัย ชูทอง มีประวัติ เคยถูกจับกุมคดีเครื่องกระสุนปืนที่ จ.ตรัง ส่วนความผิดอื่นยังไม่พบ คิดว่าไม่น่าจะเป็นมืออาชีพ ส่วนอีกคนยังตรวจไม่พบ ส่วนผู้ก่อเหตุลงมือยิงขณะนี้ยังไม่สามารถบอกได้ ต้องรอคำให้การของผู้เสียหายซึ่งขณะนี้ยังคงรักษาตัวอยู่ในโรงพยาบาลและยังไม่พร้อมให้ปากคำ ส่วนของคนร้ายนั้นมีบาดแผลถลอกตามลำตัว และหนึ่งในนั้นอาการค่อนข้างสาหัส เนื่องจากขาหัก พร้อมกันนี้ก็ได้มีการขอศาลออกหมายจับผู้ก่อเหตุแล้ว
