ชมรมคนรักในหลวงจังหวัดภูเก็ตยื่นหนังสือผ่านผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ตเรียกร้องให้กระทรวงการต่างประเทศตรวจสอบข้อเท็จจริงกรณีเอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกาประจำประเทศไทยวิจารณ์กฎหมายไทย ม.112
เมื่อวันที่ 30 พฤศจิกายน  2558  เวลา 10.30 น.  ชมรมคนรักในหลวงจังหวัดภูเก็ต นำโดยนายมงคล รัตนะ ประธานชมรมคนรักในหลวงจังหวัดภูเก็ต พร้อมด้วยสมาชิกชมรมคนรักในหลวงจังหวัดภูเก็ต กว่า 100 คน เดินทางมายังศาลากลางจังหวัดภูเก็ต เพื่อยื่นหนังสือถึงรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ผ่านผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เพื่อเรียกร้องให้ดำเนินการตอบโต้ทางการทูต ในการปกป้องศักดิ์ศรี และอธิปไตยของชาติ จากกรณีเอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกาประจำประเทศไทยวิจารณ์กฎหมายไทย ม.112 โดยนายจำเริญ ทิพญพงศ์ธาดา ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ตเป็นผู้รับหนังสือ
ประธานชมรมคนรักในหลวงภูเก็ต กล่าวถึงการเดินทางมายื่นหนังสือในครั้งนี้ว่า สืบเนื่องจากเมื่อวันที่ 25 พฤศจิกายน  2558 ที่ผ่านมา นายเกล็น ทาวน์เซนต์ เดวีส์ เอกอัคราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกาประจำประเทศไทยได้กล่าวในเวทีเสวนาที่สโมสรผู้สื่อข่าวต่างประเทศมีข้อความวิจารณ์กฎหมายหมิ่นพระบรมเดชานุภาพของไทย โดยมีข้อความที่สำคัญว่า ป.อาญา ม.112 เป็นกฎหมายที่ขัดขวางเสรีภาพในการแสดงความคิดเห็นของประชาชน การแสดงความคิดเห็นอย่างสันติไม่ควรถูกจำคุก และศาลไทยยังได้พิพากษาลงโทษจำคุกจำเลยด้วยความรุนแรงยาวนานเกินไป นอกจากนั้นนายเกล็นฯ ได้กล่าวว่าสหรัฐจะให้การสนับสนุนบุคคลหรือองค์กรอิสระที่มีศักยภาพ ค้นคว้า และรายงานในประเด็นกฎหมายหมิ่นพระบรมเดชานุภาพของไทยโดยไม่ต้องเกรงกลัวอันตรายใด ๆ

อย่างไรก็ตามนายเกล็นฯ เป็นเอกอัคราชทูต การออกมากล่าวในที่สาธารณะวิจารณ์กฎหมายสำคัญของไทย ในการปกป้องสถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์นั้น เป็นสิ่งที่ไม่ควรกระทำอยู่แล้ว ยิ่งกว่านั้น การกล่าวในลักษณะยุยงให้บุคคลอื่นๆ กระด้างกระเดื่องต่อกฎหมายฉบับนี้ ย่อมถือว่าเป็นพฤติการณ์ที่ผิดมารยาททางการทูตทั้งยังสุ่มเสี่ยงต่อการกระทำความผิดตาม ป.อาญา ม.116 (3) อีกด้วย ซึ่งประเทศสหรัฐก็มีกฎหมายคุ้มครองประธานาธิบดีเช่นกัน ทั้งนี้เมื่อปี 2553 นายสเปนเซอร์ ชาวเมืองหลุยส์วิลส์ มลรัฐเคนตั๊กกี้ ได้ถูกศาลตัดสินลงโทษจำคุกนานถึง 33 เดือน จากการกระทำในการเขียนบทกวีพาดพิงประธานาธิบดีสหรัฐ ดังนั้น นายเกล็น ทาวน์เซนต์ เดวีส์ ควารที่จะได้ศึกษากฎหมายของประเทศตนเองให้ถ่องแท้เสียก่อนว่าขัดขวางเสรีภาพของประชาชน และมีการลงโทษมากเกินไปหรือไม่

ดังนั้น ชมรมคนรักในหลวงจังหวัดภูเก็ต จึงขอเรียกร้องให้กระทรวงการต่างประเทศของไทย ตรวจสอบข้อเท็จ และพิจารณาในเรื่องนี้ รวมทั้งดำเนินการตามวิธีทางการทูต เพื่อปกป้องศักดิ์ศรี และอธิปไตยของประเทศไทยอย่างเร่งด่วนต่อไป.

ด้านผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ตกล่าวภายหลังรับหนังสือว่าจะส่งหนังสือฉบับนี้ไปยังกระทรวงการต่างประเทศและกระทรวงมหาดไทยต่อไปเพื่อให้รับรู้เจตนารมณ์ของชาวภูเก็ตที่ต้องการเรียกร้องให้พิจารณาในเรื่องนี้.
