เมื่อวันที่ 6 กันยายน  2558  เวลา 15.00 น. ที่โรงยิมเนเซี่ยม 4,000 ที่นั่ง ศูนย์กีฬาสะพานหิน อ.เมือง ภูเก็ต ศ.ดร.เจริญ วรรธนะสิน รองประธานโอลิมปิกแห่งประเทศไทย เป็นประธานเปิดการแข่งขันการยกน้ำหนักชิงชนะเลิศแห่งเอเชีย ประจำปี 2558 โดยมีนายนิสิต จันทร์สมวงศ์ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต นางบุษบา ยอดบางเตย ประธานคณะกรรมการการจัดการแข่งขัน คณะกรรมการ นักกีฬา และประชาชนจำนวนมากเข้าร่วม

ศ.ดร. เจริญ วรรธนะสิน กล่าวว่า จังหวัดภูเก็ต หรือ ประเทศไทย ได้รับหน้าที่แทนประเทศเนปาล ซึ่งประสบกับภัยพิบัติทางธรรมชาติแผ่นดินไหวอย่างรุนแรงทำให้ไม่สามารถจัดการแข่งขันและขอยกเลิกการเป็นเจ้าภาพในเดือนกรกฎาคมที่ผ่านมา ซึ่งการแข่งขันในครั้งนี้ เป็นการชิงชัยของนักยกน้ำหนักชาย ครั้งที่ 45 และนักยกน้ำหนักหญิง ครั้งที่ 26 โดยมีนักกีฬาและเจ้าหน้าที่ทั้งหมด 395 คน จาก 38 ประเทศ ในภูมิภาคเอเชียเข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน โดยจำแนกเป็นนักกีฬาชาย 138 คน นักกีฬาหญิง 61 คน ทำการแข่งขันระหว่างวันที่ 6-12 ก.ย. 2558 ณ โรงยิม4000 ที่นั่ง สะพานหิน ภูเก็ต เริ่มแข่งขันตั้งแต่เวลา 14.00 น. – 19.30 น.

สำหรับผลการแข่งขันยกน้ำหนังชิงชนะเลิศเอเชีย วันแรก นักยกน้ำหนักทีมชาติไทยคว้าได้ 1 เหรียญทอง 3 เหรียญทองแดง โดยเหรียญทองแรกได้จาก รุ่น น้ำหนัก 56 กิโลกรัมชาย “เจ้าดุ่ย” สิทธิ์เพชร กรวยทอง จากท่าสแนตซ์ ยกได้ 122 กก. และ 2 เหรียญทองแดงจากท่าคลีนแอนด์เจิร์กและผลคะแนนรวมทั้ง 2 ท่า โดยเหรียญทองตกเป็นของนักยกลูกเหล็กจากฟิลิปินส์ ขณะที่ประเภทหญิงรุ่น 48 กก “น้องฟ้า” พนิดา ดำศรี ทำได้ 1 เหรียญทองแดงจากผลคะแนนรวม 187 กก
