เมื่อวันที่ 8 พฤศจิกายน  2559  เวลา 15.00 น. ที่ โรงแรมเพิร์ลภูเก็ต นายโชคชัย เดชอมรธัญ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นประธานเปิดการประชุมสามัญของ บริษัท ภูเก็ตพัฒนาเมือง จำกัด และบรรยายพิเศษหัวข้อ “แนวคิดและ แนวทางในการพัฒนาภูเก็ต”

นายโชคชัย เดชอมรธัญ ได้กล่าวชื่นชมนักธุรกิจ ชาวภูเก็ตที่รวมตัวกันก่อตั้งบริษัท ภูเก็ตพัฒนาเมือง จำกัด ขึ้น พร้อมย้ำแนวทางการบริหารงานและพัฒนาจังหวัดภูเก็ตว่า ภาครัฐ พร้อมที่จะเข้าไปสนับสนุนอย่างเต็มที่ เพื่อให้โอกาสคนภูเก็ตเข้ามาพัฒนาเมืองของตนเอง ทั้งนี้ภูเก็ตพัฒนาเมืองจะต้องทำธุรกิจเพื่อคนภูเก็ตในขอบเขตของการพัฒนาสิ่งที่เป็นโครงสร้างพื้นฐานเพื่อส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยว เพราะจังหวัดภูเก็ตเติบโตได้จากการท่องเที่ยว เช่น การลงทุนในระบบขนส่งมวลชนของรถไฟฟ้ารางเบา ,ดิจิตอล สมาร์ทซิตี้, ให้ภูเก็ตเป็นเมืองระดับพรีเมี่ยม และมีคุณภาพด้านการท่องเที่ยวระดับโลก เบื้องต้นภาครัฐโดยจังหวัดภูเก็ตจะเร่งผลักดันให้ภูเก็ตมีโครงข่าย Free Wifi ครอบคลุมทั้งจังหวัดเพื่อรองรับการเติบโตขอเมืองในฐานะ ภูเก็ตอัจฉริยะ หรือ Smart City โดยเร็ว พร้อมให้ความมั่นใจว่า จะทำสิ่งดีๆให้กับจังหวัดภูเก็ต โดยคนภูเก็ตทุกคนจะก้าวเดินไปด้วยกันอย่างมั่งคงไม่ทิ้งใครไว้ข้างหลัง ทั้งนี้ขอให้ทุกฝ่ายช่วยกันขับเคลื่อนและปฏิบัติภายใต้ระเบียบ ข้อกฎหมาย จะทำให้ภูเก็ตเดินหน้าไปได้อย่างมั่นคง

สำหรับบริษัท ภูเก็ตพัฒนาเมือง จำกัด มีผู้ร่วมก่อตั้ง ประกอบด้วย 1. นายก้าน ประชุมพรรณ์  2.นายวัชร จารุอริยานนท์  3.นายมนต์ทวี หงษ์หยก  4.นายธนูศักดิ์ พึ่งเดช  5.นายเมธาพงศ์ อุปัติศฤงค์ และ 6.นายบุญ ยงสกุล ทั้งนี้ ” ภายใต้วิสัยทัศน์ “ภูเก็ตเมืองอัจฉริยะ ด้วยนวัตกรรมโครงสร้างพื้นฐานและการคมนาคมขนส่งสีเขียว” มี เจตนารมย์ ที่ต้องการระดมศักยภาพด้านต่างๆ ที่มีอยู่ของภูเก็ต เพื่อนำไปสู่การปรับปรุงฟื้นฟูเมือง ให้เกิดความน่าอยู่ และยั่งยืนด้วยนวัตกรรมและเทคโนโลยีที่ไม่ก่อให้เกิดมลพิษต่อเมือง โดยเฉพาะเรื่องของการจัดระบบขนส่งมวลชน ที่ต้องเร่งผลักดันให้เกิดขึ้นโดยเร็ว เพื่อตอบสนองให้ทันต่อความจำเป็นของประชาชนและนักท่องเที่ยว และมีประสิทธิภาพในการส่งเสริมการค้า การลงทุน ในจังหวัดภูเก็ตอีกทางหนึ่ง จะทำหน้าที่ในการระดมจากภาคเอกชน เพื่อนำไปลงทุนในกิจการสาธารณะ ที่เป็นประโยชน์ต่อจังหวัดภูเก็ตในภาพรวม โดยเบื้องต้นมองไปที่ การผลักดันให้เกิดระบบขนส่งมวลชนหลัก (รถไฟฟ้ารางเบา) และระบบขนส่งมวลชนรอง (รถบัส 6 สาย) ที่สมบูรณ์แบบ ให้เกิดขึ้นในจังหวัดภูเก็ตให้ได้ เพื่อสร้างความทันสมัยให้กับเมืองด้วยนวัตกรรมการขนส่งและการเดินทางพร้อมด้วยเทคโนโลยีดิจิตอลที่ ตอบสนองและประกอบธุรกิจ การนันทนาการการอยู่อาศัยและการจัดระบบสิ่งแวดล้อมซึ่งจะส่งผลดีในระยะยาวให้กับจังหวัดภูเก็ตมีการพัฒนาที่มั่นคงและมีความยั่งยืน
