เมื่อวันที่ 7 พฤศจิกายน  2559  ที่ห้องประชุมศูนย์ปฏิบัติการจังหวัดภูเก็ต (POC) นายสราวุธ แก้วตาทิพย์ ผู้อำนวยการสำนักนโยบายและยุทธศาสตร์ กระทรวงพลังงาน เป็นประธานการประชุมติดตามประเมินคุณภาพแผนพลังงาน และสภาพการปฏิบัติงานแบบเจาะลึก (In – depth Review) ในจังหวัดนำร่อง เพื่อนำข้อมูลที่ได้รับไปวิเคราะห์แนวทางการพัฒนาการจัดทำแผน โดยมีนายวิโรจน์ ดำคง พลังงานจังหวัดภูเก็ต พร้อมด้วยหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องเข้าร่วม

นายสราวุธ แก้วตาทิพย์ ผู้อำนวยการสำนักนโยบายและยุทธศาสตร์ กระทรวงพลังงาน กล่าวว่า เนื่องจากรัฐบาล โดยนายกรัฐมนตรี ได้สั่งการให้กระทรวงพลังงานจัดทำแผนแม่บทที่เกี่ยวกับแผนยุทธศาสตร์พลังงานระดับกลุ่มจังหวัดตามยุทธศาสตร์ประเทศ ในจังหวัดนำร่อง 10 จังหวัด ซึ่งจังหวัดภูเก็ตเป็นหนึ่งในจังหวัดนำร่อง เนื่องจากมีการใช้ไฟฟ้าจำนวนมาก โดยในปัจจุบันมีการใช้ไฟฟ้าประมาณ 410 เมกกะวัตต์ และไฟฟ้าที่ใช้ก็มาจากการไฟฟ้าฝ่ายผลิตจากโรงไฟฟ้ากระบี่ ซึ่งทำให้มีความเสี่ยงสูงที่จะทำให้ไม่เพียงพอต่อการใช้ไฟฟ้าได้ในอนาคต จึงต้องหาแนวทางการลดใช้ปริมาณไฟฟ้าจากภาคส่วนที่เกี่ยวข้อง เพื่อนำข้อมูลที่ได้รับไปวิเคราะห์ เสนอแนะแนวทางการพัฒนาการจัดทำแผนการพัฒนาพลังงานต่อไป

อย่างไรก็ดีในประชุมได้มีการเสนอให้ลดการใช้ไฟสาธารณะ โดยการเปลี่ยนเป็นหลอด LED การส่งเสริมการติดตั้งแผงโซล่าเซลล์ การแยกขยะจากแหล่งกำเนิด การสร้างแรงจูงใจในภาคธุรกิจ เป็นต้น
