เมื่อวันที่ 27 เมษายน  2559  เวลา 11.00 น. ที่โรงแรมภูเก็ตเมอร์ลิน ดร.ประเจียด อักษรธรรมกุล รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นประธานเปิดงานวันแห่งครอบครัวและสมัชชาครอบครัวประจำปี 2559 โดยมี นางพิมพร ขอศานติวิชัย พัฒนาสังคมและความมั่นคงของมนุษย์จังหวัดภูเก็ต หน่วยงานภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชน องค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่น เครือข่ายสตรีผู้สูงอายุและอาสาสมัคร เข้าร่วม

นางพิมพร ขอศานติวิชัย กล่าวว่า กระทรวงการพัฒนาสังคมและความมั่นคงของมนุษย์ กำหนดให้ทุกจังหวัดจัดงานวันแห่งครอบครัวและสมัชชาครอบครัวระดับจังหวัด เพื่อมอบโล่เกียรติคุณแก่ครอบครัวที่ได้รับการคัดเลือกเป็นครอบครัวร่มเย็นของจังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นการกระตุ้นให้สังคมตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของสถาบันครอบครัวและระดมความคิดเห็น ข้อเสนอแนะเกี่ยวกับสถานการณ์ครอบครัวในจังหวัด สภาพปัญหาครอบครัวในจังหวัด ข้อเสนอแนวทางการส่งเสริมพัฒนาสถาบันครอบครัว เพื่อนำไปสู่การปฏิบัติและส่งเสริมพัฒนาครอบครัวของทุกภาคส่วนในสังคมให้เข้มแข็ง

คณะอนุกรรมการส่งเสริมและพัฒนาครอบครัวจังหวัดภูเก็ต ได้คัดเลือกครอบครัวช่างเหล็ก (นายบุญช่วย – นางยุพา) เป็นครอบครัวร่มเย็นระดับจังหวัด เข้ารับโล่เชิดชูเกียรติจากรองนายกรัฐมนตรี(พลเรือเอก ณรงค์ พิพัฒนาศัย) เมื่อวันศุกร์ที่ 8 เมษายน 2559 ณ อาคารอิมแพคฟอรั่ม เมืองทองธานี จังหวัดนนทบุรีและคณะกรรมการฯ ได้คัดเลือกครอบครัวร่มเย็นที่เป็นแบบอย่าง จำนวน 4 ครอบครัวประกอบด้วย ครอบครัวไตรทิพย์พิกุล ครอบครัวประพฤติตรง ครอบครัวพันธ์ฉลาด และครอบครัวเปี่ยมวิวัฒน์ติกุล ภายในงานมีซุ้มจำหน่ายผลิตภัณฑ์จากเครือข่ายต่าง ๆ อาทิ ผลิตภัณฑ์แชมพูสมุนไพร ส้มแขกจากกลุ่มสตรีตำบลกมลา เครื่องประดับมุกจากตำบลรัษฎา และซุ้มน้ำพริกจากตำบลวิชิต
