เมื่อวันที่ 21 มกราคม  2559  เวลา 11.00 น.  ที่ห้องรับรอง ศาลากลาง จังหวัดภูเก็ต นายเกเบรียล เลียว ที่ปรึกษาทูต สถานเอกอัครราชทูตสาธารณรัฐสิงคโปร์ เข้าพบ ดร. ประเจียด อักษรธรรมกุล รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ตเพื่อหารือในเรื่องเกี่ยวกับเรื่องมาตรการการรักษาความปลอดภัยของนักท่องเที่ยวของประเทศสิงคโปร์

ดร.ประเจียด อักษรธรรมกุล กล่าวว่า ตลอดทั้งปีมีนักท่องเที่ยวจากประเทศสิงคโปร์เข้ามาเที่ยวในประเทศไทยเป็นจำนวนมากซึ่งมีจำนวนนักท่องเที่ยวเพิ่มขึ้นทุกปี และได้มีนักลงทุนเข้ามาลงทุนด้านการท่องเที่ยว โรงแรมในจังหวัดภูเก็ตเป็นอันดับ 9 ทำให้ระบบเศรษฐกิจของภูเก็ตดีขึ้น ส่วนเรื่องของมาตรการรักษาความปลอดภัยแก่นักท่องเที่ยวได้มีการดูแลเป็นพิเศษ โดยให้ทุกหน่วยงานทำงานประสานในเรื่องของข้อมูลข่าวสารต่าง ๆ ตลอดเวลา นอกจากนี้ได้มีการวางมาตรการในเรื่องการจราจรทั้งทางบก ทางน้ำ ที่มีนักท่องเที่ยวให้สัญจรในการท่องเที่ยวสถานที่ต่าง ๆ นอกจากนี้ได้มีการขอความร่วมมือให้ประชาชนในแต่ละพื้นที่ได้ช่วยกันดูแลนักท่องเที่ยวอีกทางหนึ่ง อย่างไรก็ตามด้านเรื่องแผนพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวในจังหวัดภูเก็ตปี 2020 จะต้องพัฒนาระบบการท่องเที่ยวโดยเฉพาะเรื่อง Marina Hub เรื่องรถไฟฟ้ารางเบา เรื่องอาหารปลอดภัย รวมถึง Smart city ให้เป็นการท่องเที่ยวที่ยั่งยืนเพราะเป็นหัวใจสำคัญของเมืองภูเก็ต และต้องมีการกระจายรายได้ให้กับประชาชน ที่สำคัญเป็นการเชื่อมโยงในภูมิภาคอาเซียนรองรับการท่องเที่ยวให้มีความสะดวก ปลอดภัยและสร้างความมั่นใจในการเดินทาง ทั้งนี้ในการเชื่อมความสัมพันธ์เมืองพี่เมืองน้อง ซึ่งถือเป็นนโยบายสำคัญของผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต จะต้องศึกษารายละเอียดความเป็นไปได้อีกครั้งหนึ่ง

ทั้งนี้ทางจังหวัดภูเก็ตได้มีการวางมาตรการการรักษาความปลอดภัยอย่างเข้มงวด เพื่อเป็นการสร้างความมั่นใจแก่นักท่องเที่ยวที่จะเดินทางมาท่องเที่ยวยังจังหวัดภูเก็ต
